The Golf College and Plumpton College Partner to Develop Golf’s Next Generation

The Golf College and Plumpton College have announced a new education partnership to strengthen specialist golf and sports education provision in the South East of England.

The partnership will bring together Plumpton College’s expertise in vocational education with The Golf College’s specialist experience in golf coaching, performance and player development.

Students on The Golf College’s long-established BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport will benefit from teaching delivered by lecturers from Plumpton College alongside coaching from golf professionals at The Golf College.

The programme will provide a distinctive learning experience, with studies taking place in the classroom, on the golf course, in the gym and across the wider learning and social spaces at Lindfield Golf Club.

The partnership will strengthen the delivery of the BTEC programme, enabling students to develop their understanding of key sporting principles while benefiting from immediate access to specialist golf facilities and professional coaching.

Connecting regional expertise

Plumpton College is a leading provider of land and environmental education in the South East, with an established Adventure Education and Sport provision. The College brings significant experience in vocational education, practical learning and supporting students to progress into further study and employment.

The Golf College, established in 2004, has been educating aspiring golfers for more than two decades. Owned and operated by professional golfer Paul Lyons and based at Lindfield Golf Club, the College provides students with intensive golf tuition, regular competition opportunities and an education designed around the demands of the professional game.

The two organisations are located just 10 miles apart, creating an opportunity to work closely together while combining their respective strengths.

Both organisations share a strong commitment to student achievement, retention and progression, supporting learners to complete their studies and move successfully into their chosen careers and higher education.

Combining education and elite golf development

Alongside their academic studies, students receive specialist golf coaching and the opportunity to develop their technical ability, physical performance and understanding of competitive golf.

The programme also provides opportunities for students to experience international golf. During the winter term, learners have the opportunity to continue their education abroad while playing tournament golf and preparing for the European golf season.

During the autumn and summer terms, students are based at The Golf College at Lindfield Golf Club. The combination of education, intensive golf tuition and regular competition is designed to give students an insight into the life and demands of an international golfer.

The Golf College reports that 91% of its students progress into successful careers in the golfing industry, higher education or professional coaching pathways, including PGA Professional Training.
